The
Jaycees are excited to kickoff the summer season
with the Schweizerfest. Between the Jaycees members,
the City of Highland, local businesses, and community
organizations, this event is truly the result of
teamwork at its finest.
The
feature event of Schweizerfest is the spectacular
parade held Saturday at 5:00 and Sunday at 3:00p.m.
The theme for this year’s parade is ‘175th
Jubilee'. Parade participants are encouraged to
create entries that illustrate the Heritage of Highland..
Special
parade participants have included The Illinois Jaycees’
State President, and Joe Michaelis, the Mayor of
Highland. The event will also showcase the HHS Marching
Band both evenings, and has included the Mater Dei
Marching Band in past years. The Jaycees are eager
to bring back numerous Shriner's groups from around
the area, which are always a crowd favorite from
year to year.
The Schweizerfest is the largest project the chapter
organizes. It is the group's largest community fundraiser,
and the success of the event determines how many
causes we can support throughout the year.
The
Highland Jaycees raise approximately 75 percent
of their annual income from Schweizerfest. Of the
Jaycees’ annual income, an average of $10,000-$20,000
is donated back to the community. Recent donations
include: the Highland Area Community Foundation,
HHS Scholarship, Camp New Hope, the Angel Fund,
the Ruth Lowenstein Foundation, and many more.
The
Jaycees host Schweizerfest to give back to the community,
not just that weekend, but all year long.
